In a quiet secluded coffee shop sat a lone figure all clothed in black. The figure had been occupying the same seat for many hours, completely immobile. To many people the figure looked like a statue, but in actuality the figure was a living breathing person, full of sorrow. There had been a funeral earlier that day for someone that had been very dear to the figure, a warrior. A person who had fought for peace, fought to save people's lives. They would no longer do that, no now they were long gone. It was ironic that the person who had died, had done so in a freak accindent and not during battle. He had looked left, instead of right, he hadn't seen the truck coming. No more would the world know the laughter that he had brought to it. No more would there be him standing there ready to lend a hand to any who needed some help. Duo Maxwell, the braided pilot of the Gundam Deathscythe was gone, and he was never coming back. The funeral had been beautiful, white lillie's and purple aster's everywhere, and for once he was in a suit. Howard, the other Gundam pilot's and Relena had been there along with a few others. Everyone had shown some emotion, even the usually stoic Trowa had shown some emotion, but the figure had stood there still as stone, completely emotionless. Everyone had been able to show some sign of emotion but she could not. All that she saw were his lively eyes, and his loveable smile, and she heard was his cheerful voice over and over again in her mind. Thing's that the world would never hear nor see ever again. It had been three days since Duo had died, but she still could not let go, she couldn't seem to say goodbye. Everytime that she tried, her heart would seize and her mind would go numb. She would never let him go, she couldn't risk forgetting him. Suddenly to her it seemed as if the whole world had turned white in a brilliant flash of light. And suddenly there he was standing right infront of her with his usual cheeky expression, just as he had been the morning he had died.
"You have to let go, we'll meet again someday," the apparition whispered in her ear.
"But I don't want to forget you," she responded quietly.
"You have me in you heart, you'll never forget me, I'll always be in your heart," the apparition whispered again this time with more force in his voice, a sense of urgency tinging his words.
"Why did you leave me? Why?"
"It wasn't me choice, I love you, if I could have prevented it I would have, you know that." He whispered again this time his voice gaining a serious tone, one which had rarely been heard when he was alive.
"I want to be with you," she cried again anguish tearing at her heart.
"It's not your time, you still have many things to do in this life. I must leave you now, but I promise you that one day we will be together again. Just remember that life goes on, it continues, even if we don't want it to." He whispered, his voice getting softer with each word but the urgency and sincerity never leaving his steadily fading voice.
"Don't leave me, Duo, don't leave me," she sobbed with uneven breaths even though she knew that her request was futile it could not be fulfilled.
"I'll never leave your heart, remember me."
"Duo!"
"Life goes on..." he whispered, the last words barely loud enough for her to hear.
Just as suddenly she could once more see the occupants of the coffee shop and they could see her, but she no longer resembled a lifeless statue. Her eyes though shining with unshed tears held a spark of hope, a returned spark of life. If you came close you could hear her whispering a phrase repeatedly under her breath, "life goes on, life goes on..." That's how her friend Relena found her, Relena found her friend to be once again a member of the living. And as she walked up to her grieving friend she resolved that she would help her friend through this ordeal and the grief.
"Come on Hilde, it's time to go home," she said as she placed a hand on Hilde's shoulder.
"Yes it is, life does go on. It does continue after death."
"Yes, it does."
